This is the third story for this sub arc. The
conclusion would be tied into the proposed season
finale... but I'm getting ahead of myself.

Gargoyles - Fallen Angel

A Plot by Stephen R. Sobotka, Jr.

* * * * *

The next day, Fox and David are looking for Ian Ravyn,
who seems to have vanished from sight after the events
in "Discoveries". The clan is also vigilant when they
patrol, hoping they can find out where Ian has
disappeared to, but no one seems to have seen him or
knows where he is. He never returned to the hotel he
and Tao were staying at, nor did he show up for
rehearsals at XMI Studios.

The Clan is unsettled because of the ramifications as
to what Ian might possibly be. If he is a mutate, then
they must find out who did the genetic alteration to
him (a few think Sevarius is involved), or, if he is a
true human/gargoyle hybrid, then it means major change
for the relations between humans and gargoyles in the
long run.

This last part impacts the most on Goliath and Elisa.
For the longest time they've accepted the theoretical
supposition that gargoyle physiology and human
physiology cannot be genetically compatible. Thus,
while Goliath and Elisa love each other, they cannot
have any children together the natural way, the
presence of Ian might prove that there is a way to get
around that. If he was conceived in the usual way.
But, they need Ian to prove this.

Nearly half a world away, Ian is on a private jet,
headed for a location in Europe that is only known to
a few, including him. Ever since he got on the plane,
it has been eating him alive inside that he has done
what he did; tricking the gargoyles into thinking he
was something that he was not.

While the jet flies on, he drifts off to sleep and in
his dreams, he remembers partially how he got where he
is today . . .

Ian Ravyn was originally a young English teen that was
living in Europe with his parents, until a fight with
his father forced him to leave home, and end up living
on the streets. For a while, he wandered from town to
town, doing small jobs for money and food, living in
shelters and in places where street-people spent the
night.

At one point, he found out he could sing rather well,
so he began to do street performances, and that earned
him a little better money for a time, until one of his
street friends suggested he try to find a job with one
of the taverns in town, which was looking to hire a
second musician.

Back in New York, Brad Tork is talking to Fox, worried
about the disappearance of their newly-signed star.
Fox assures him that Ian will be found, but privately
she wonders how that can be done, since it seems that
the young singer has fallen off the face of the world.

* * * * *

Ian went to the bar, The Falconer's Eyrie, to look for
a job as a performer. The owner said that something
happened to the last person that they had hired to
sing for the patrons, and for now they only had a lone
piano player. However, someone vouches for Ian's
talent (having heard one of his street corner
performances the other day), and he gets a chance to
prove it that night.

During the "dinner hour" Ian performs a song that he's
had the afternoon to transcribe down into sheet music;
a small song called "Ever Unto The Heart". He earns
himself a mixed applause at the end, but it is enough
for the tavern owner to see that he has the talent;
now he needs the chance to make it better. So, he gets
the job as the new tavern singer.

Ian is woken up just as the plane is about to land in

country of

while still remembering what happened after he got his
first job...

A year later, and Ian has become a popular hit with
the locals that frequent the tavern. He's written more
songs, and has a small apartment of his own that he
rents. He hasn't forgotten those that were still on
the streets, as he worked out an agreement with the
tavern owner to hire a few of those that are able to
work as busers, servers, and kitchen staff. For the
time being, Ian looks like he is finally stable in his
life.

One night though, a recording agent for a European
Record Company comes into the tavern, and sits through
one of Ian's performances - a very upbeat number
called "Taking On The World". Afterwards, the agent
approaches Ian with an offer to sign him on as a new
act with their recording label. It's a once in a
lifetime opportunity, and Ian immediately agrees.
There's a big celebration in the tavern that night,
and already his friends are proclaiming him as a new
singing sensation.

However, when Ian walks home that night, he is
attacked by a lone person. It first appears to be a
mugging, but then it gets more violent as the attacker
attempts to strangle Ian. All the while, the person is
snarling about Ian "stealing" his opportunities, and
this is to pay him back for taking the spotlight away
from him. Ian is nearly about to succumb to being
killed, when a few local constables see the attack and
frighten off the attacker. One gives chase, but the
other stays with Ian. He has a few seconds of
lucidity, before he falls unconscious, much to the
worry of the officer.

Back in New York, Fox and Brad are meeting with the
executives of XMI, to discuss what to do in Ian
Ravyn's absence. The official report is that he has
left America to return to Europe to continue recording
his music, and the company that holds Ian's European
contracts is concurring with this, while in truth no
one knows where he is.

Several of the executives are willing to cancel Ian's
contract, and move on to find a new artist to head the
company. Fox and Brad argue that the just signed Ian
just yesterday, and they can't just up and dump him
now. But, it's a matter of company policy. They can't
just sign on anyone and then ignore it when the artist
disappears. Fox swears that she will bring Ian back,
so, they offer that they will give her a period of one
week to find him. If Ian does not show up by then to
begin recording his new American album, then they must
speak to his European backers to seek compensation.

After landing and getting through customs, Ian is
taken to a private limousine and is whisked away from
the airport. While one of the "company" men is
speaking to him, Ian is still replaying the past in
his thoughts:

* * *

Ian awoke in the hospital after the attack, and the
doctors did not have the best of news to tell him: he
was alive, but his attacker (which was the piano
player from the tavern) had crushed his larynx, thus
damaging his vocal cords. Ian would still be able to
speak once he healed and rested for a while, but the
doctor said that he would more than likely never be
able to sing again.

True to the diagnosis, Ian did recover, but he could
not sing as he did before the assault. Thus, he lost
his job to a replacement singer, and was soon forced
back onto the streets again.

<Insert "B Plot" here>

* * * * *

It wasn't until a few months after than, that Ian was
approached by a man with a cane on "Bum's Row" (the
place where all street people lived) who offered him a
way to reclaim his lost talent. It would mean
subjecting himself to some "unique surgical methods",
but the end result would be that Ian could return to
his singing, and even have a chance to become
professional again.

Ian agrees, since the assault he has longed to return
to his singing. And, in a few days, he is taken to the
current location of a secret laboratory. He is soon
prepped for the operation, but some of the items in
the room (we see the beginnings of his wings and claw
sheaths, in raw cybernetic form) but soon the
anesthesia takes effect, and he says no more.

* * * * *

Ian arrives by nightfall at a warehouse, where he is
taken into an underground area below. There, he passes
by several ongoing projects (one is an assembler
making another 'Coyote-1' robot, while several others
restrain another cyborg, which has gone berserk),
before he enters a high security area, before being
admitted into a plush, spacious office.

There, a figure in shadow behind a huge desk greets
him, and asks if his trip to New York was successful.
Ian replies that he made contact with the gargoyles,
and that they now know of his wings; adding he is sure
they believe that he is a hybrid.

The Figure [chuckling] : "Good . . . are you prepared
for the next phase of the plan?"

Ian : "Yes, sir. But, I don't think we should do this!
I mean . . . what have they done to deserve this?"

The Figure [In a cold voice] : "They did plenty. First
they take away my right to gain that what I most
desire, they ruined me, and now they just live as if
everything was all's well with the world! Well . . .
there will be a reckoning for what they did to me.
[the figure's eyes flare white] And especially the
former sweethearts, and my other 'father'!

Just then, the figure leans into the light, and the
reader sees it is Thailog, but with his face horribly
burned. "Yes . . . they will pay, and you, my boy Ian
. . . you will help me."

Again, these need tweeking to fit, and are not the
final drafts, but this gives you all an idea of one of
the things we can do during Season 3.
